Only 9 Percent seats for OBCs in IIT !

The directors of IIT’s have started scratching their heads on how to implement this OBC quota. The meeting of IIT directors was held in New Delhi and Dr.Surinder Prasad said that there will be an increase of 9% seats overall in all IITs and IT BHU and ISM Dhanbad. When we analyze this, we Conclude some important things. Those are:

  • Though reservation is made for OBC, there wont be any hinderance to the OC people in getting an IIT seat. The total No. of seats in IIT for OC will remain unchanged even during this academic year 2008-2009.
  • Though Supreme court SC has approved the 27% OBC reservation, only 9% is alloted to OBC this academic year. This means that it takes 3 years to implement this 27% in IITs.
  • The directors of IIT are very clear not to lose even a single seat of OC to the OBC.
  • They asked Central government for helping them, to increase the faculty and resource alloted to them, as the seats are increasing.
  • Cutoffs for OBC will be 90% of that of OC
  • The only good news for OBCs is that, the three new IITs starting this academic year 2008-2009 will have full 27% for the OBC in their total intake of 120 each in IIT Bihar, Rajasthan, Hyderabad.
